Cobalt Blue Solutions Mock Ad Campaign

Project type

Mock Marketing Booklet and Materials

Date

June 2026

Location

Charlotte, NC

The goal of this project was to turn an interest of mine and a previous art project into a booklet and mock concept publication that constructed modular arcology cities that could be located anywhere.

While a lot of the future-looking dialog talks about flights to Mars or lunar colonies, not much thought seems to be placed on the idea of how these projects will supply ample water, food, electrical power, and manufacturing capacity for the environments they are intended to locate in.

The images were AI-generated from a wireframe that I created for Illustrator back in 2009. I wrote the text itself with editing assistance from Grammarly. I had played a number of Science Fiction City builder games that focused on the development of colonies on far-flung worlds. (Civilization Beyond Earth:Rising Tide and Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri) The concept of Ocean Cities had always been fascinating to me.

This was a project that I had originally worked on in my brief time in art school back in 2009. The creation of Floating Cities to combat the impacts of Climate Change. I designed the city concept itself on real-life flora, in this particular case: the lily pad.

I encountered a couple of start-up gentlemen in the summer of 2009 who were trying to come up with a solution to the issues around Lagos, Nigeria. There is an actual "Floating Slum" there, and the creation of floating cities with advanced solutions is a genuine real-world need.

While I wish that I personally could come up with this technology for our real world, sadly, I can only create barely detailed write-ups and AI-rendered mock-ups. A company like this does need to eventually exist, and it will eventually be a necessity for a myriad of important real-world reasons.

I personally believe that the creation of a post-scarcity world will be a requirement for ever being able to achieve Mars or Lunar Colonization. To state it simply, if we cannot provide enough water, food, electricity, and shelter on Earth, how do we ever realistically expect to do so in physically hostile alien environments?
